EMC of machines and plants - Which standard applies?
- A Low Voltage Switchgear (LVS) Assembly has been made available to be combined with a machine. The Machinery Directive as well as the LVD and EMC Directive will apply. Relevant (harmonised) standards can be identified by the OJCE e.g. EN 60204-1 (MD); EN 61439-1 (LVD) and parts of EN 61000-6-1, -2, -3, -4 based on the operational environment (EMC).
- The Low Voltage Switchgear Assembly is a discrete Main/Sub Power Distribution Panel. Therefore, the Low Voltage Directive and EMC Directive applies. The product standard EN 62208 shall be applied for empty LV enclosure under the LVD Directive and can be used to cover almost all requirements arising from EN 61439-1. Tests are otherwise necessary, especially to confirm mechanical strength/static load and the degree of protection against access to hazardous parts, against ingress of solid foreign objects and/or against ingress of water.
- The Low Voltage Switchgear Assembly is a ¨IT Rack”. In this case, the Low Voltage Directive applies; e.g. EN 62368 Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment - Part 1: Safety requirements [that is a replacement of 60950-1]. The EMC directive and standards listed under case 1) applies as well.
