RED Directive on the rise

Why is the Radio Equipment Directive (RED Directive) nevertheless becoming increasingly important for machinery and equipment manufacturers?

Simply because more and more trades communicate wireless, digitization is advancing faster and faster and Industry 4.0 will become a must for mechanical and plant engineering. What exactly is a radio installation anyway? The RED Directive defines such products in the most elegant terms as...

an electrical or electronic product which, for the purpose of radio communication and/or radio location, transmits and/or receives radio waves as intended, or an electrical or electronic product which requires accessories, such as an antenna, in order to transmit and/or receive radio waves as intended for the purpose of radio communication and/or radio location.

This means that today more and more trades in mechanical and plant engineering have to meet the requirements of the RED directive. Tendency: rising. A comprehensive catalogue of obligations awaits the economic players involved. The following cases are encountered in mechanical and plant engineering:

  • is permanently and permanently installed in a new or used machine.
  • is attached to a new or used machine in an easily accessible and easily removable way.
  • is permanently and permanently incorporated into an incomplete machine.
  • is attached to partly completed machinery in such a way that it is easily accessible and easily removable.
